FATO is an innovative quintet with an eclectic sonority, recognized by critics in Brazil and abroad through nine albums, two DVDs, one music book and several videos.
A strong characteristic of the group is the way they mix all sorts of musical elements from throughout Brazil in arrangements influenced by jazz, pop, MPB, free improvisation and more. Percussion plays a prominent role, especially the wooden clogs worn by the musicians who tap out elaborate syncopated rhythms inspired in the "fandango caiçara"(*). The sound of the clogs is a hallmark of Fato's music, either used on feet or transformed into Tamancalha (instrument made with clogs).
Their album “Próximo” featured guest appearances of major Brazilian artists such as Lenine and Pedro Luís and was the 28th among the 100 Best of Brazilian Music in 2014 (embrulhador.com). In its newest album, claro_movimento, produced by João Cavalcanti, FATO deepens its innovative musical language and expands the sound in the creative arrangements and interpretations.
